August 23rd - GM #1: Welcome Back
Mabuhay (welcome) to both our old and future members! Kick off your semester right with Troy Phi at our 1st general meeting on August 23rd at SOS B46. We will be revealing the theme for one of our biggest events-- Friendship Games! Come to learn more about our programs like Friendship Games and enjoy FREE LUMPIA. See you there!
August 25th - Beach Bonfire
Looking for a chill way to end your summer? Come bond with your new friends and grub on some free pizza in front of a warm fire. Join us THIS SATURDAY, 8/25 at Dockweiler Beach. Meet us at the EVK turnout at 3:30 PM for rides.
August 30th - Bahay Kubo x Dollar Hits Social
On August 30, we’ll be having our first social at Bahay Kubo & Dollar Hits. Come hang out with your fellow Troy Phi members and bond over authentic and delicious Pilipino food so hopefully you guys can have a little taste of home!!! Meet us at SOS B46 at 7pm and we’ll leave at 7:20pm! Bring money and your happy faces because we’re eating good Thursday night!
September 6th - GM #2: Speed Dating
In Troy Phi you'll find people who will swim beside you when life gets you down. Come find your Kuya/Ate/Ading on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 in SOSB46 at 7PM. But wait... What's a Kuya? What's an Ate? What's an Ading? In Tagalog, Kuya = big brother, Ate = big sister, Ading = little sibling, so come Thursday to experience one of the biggest programs in TP.
September 13th - GM #3: Friendship Games + PACN Hype
Come to our GM on Thursday at THH 210 to get HYPED for TP's biggest events of the year: Friendship Games and PACN! WHAT IS PACN? Pilipino-American Culture Night is a fun bonding experience with your TP fam, but it's also a valuable opportunity for us to reconnect with our cultural roots through performing arts. WHAT IS FRIENDSHIP GAMES? Friendship Games involves Filipino organizations from California, Nevada, and Arizona. Starting in 1985, college students are engaged in friendly yet competitive games and performances, and have the opportunity to celebrate Spirit, Pride, Unity, and Friendship! (SPUF). It is also a great opportunity to meet fellow Filipino-Americans from other colleges. We can't wait for you to be a part of both events!
September 20th - KAA Fall Reveals
After meeting your potential new kuyas, ates, and adings, the time has finally arrived! We're all really excited to officially welcome the new members into the TP family lines, so please join us at the house on Thursday, September 20, at 7:15pm for KAA Reveals!! What do I bring? Just you and yourself! What happens after Reveals? Keep your night open to bond with your new family! What happens if I can't make it to Reveals? If you cannot attend or will be late, please NOTIFY Chantell (via text or FB) ASAP!
September 27th - Karaoke & Bowling Social
Feeling a little trebled after midterm season? Maybe some karaoke can help you feel sharp again! If you can't hit the notes, don't fret, because you can strike out at the bowling alley! :P Come join Troy Phi for our karaoke+bowling social on THURSDAY, September 27th at XLanes LA. We will be meeting up at 7PM at THH 210 and heading over together.
October 4th - Intro to PAHM: A Taste of Filipino Culture
What screams Filipino culture more than some home-cooked Filipino food?! To kick off Pilipino American History Month (PAHM), our first GM of October will be “Intro to PAHM: A Taste of Filipino Culture” on Thursday, 10/4!!! Come through to eat and even LEARN HOW TO COOK traditional Filipino food, while learning the history behind the food of our people! Make sure to RSVP so we can account for enough space and food!
October 6th - Historic Filipinotown Tour
Hi everyone! To celebrate the start of Pilipinx-American History Month (PAHM), Troy Phi will be hosting a Historic Filipinotown Tour on Saturday, October 6 from 2:00pm-6:00pm!! We’ll start with a tour through Historic Filipinotown and end with dinner at a local Filipino restaurant. Come through to learn more about Filipino-American culture and the history/significance behind this cultural community!! October 11th - PAHM GM #2: Harmonizing to the Melody of the Philippines
Come jam out with us this week as we explore music and instruments traditional to the Philippines! These instruments are also the same ones used during our Pilipino American Culture Night, so come through to get a behind the scenes look into how the music is made. October 18th - PAHM GM #3: Defining Your Own Pilipinx Identity
Come join us this week as we dive deeper into our Pilipinx identities through discussion! This GM will be centered around struggles faced within Filipino and Fil-Am spaces, as well as our own personal experiences. Every experience is valuable so feel free to come by and share yours in an open and safe environment!
October 25th - PAHM GM #4: Fil-Am Game Changers
In celebration of Filipino American History Month, we welcome you to Fil-Am Game Changers! In partnership with the office of Councilmember Gil Cedillo by way of Tony Ricasa and Mel Ilomin and Board of Public Works by way of Commissioner Joel Jacinto -- the City of Los Angeles honors Filipino American Game Changers who have paved the way in mainstream media. Join us for an intimate night of insight in the industry and networking with the personalities and companies like 93.5 KDAY, Pixar Animation and more!
November 1st - Development GM: How to Network
Hello Friends!! On Thursday, Maya Canonizado, our Director of Development, will be hosting the semester’s first Professional Development GM: How to Network! Gina Ibrahim, one of our Career Center representatives, will come speak with us about the resources the Career Center has in store for you, as well as mindful tips about how to network. To close up the meeting, we will be writing up our own Elevator Pitches and sharing them with one another. As always, the GM will be at THH 210 from 7pm-8:30pm. Get excited for professionalism! November 2nd - All You Can Eat Lumpia Fundraiser
Hey Troy Phi! Did you have fun at our first food social? If you missed out, no worries! PAHM may be coming to an end, but our love for food will never die!!! Come out to the All You Can Eat Lumpia Fundraiser on Friday November 2 at 7pm at the house! Anyone is invited! The cost is $5 for members and $8 for non-members. Enjoy fun games, music, and make great memories- you won’t want to miss out!!
November 8th - SCAPE x Troy Phi: The Politics of Food: From Tradition to Fusion
Join USC Troy Philippines and Student Coalition for Asian Pacific Empowerment (SCAPE) for a night of (free!) Filipino food and a discussion on the politics of food -- we will be exploring the historical, social, and cultural context of Filipino food, including the impact of colonialism and modern fusion cuisine on traditional Filipino food. Come out and learn more about the history of Filipino cuisine and enjoy some yummy dinner (vegetarian options also available) in the process! No worries if you're not a SCAPE or Troy Phi member, all are welcome to participate so come through! Thanks to USC APASA for sponsoring this event.
November 16th - 3rd Annual GM Retreat
Join us on Friday, Nov 16 - Sunday, Nov 18 at Encinitas (Northern San Diego) for our 3rd annual GM retreat! Come bond with your fave TP fam as we cook together, relax, get lit, and do some warm fuzzy feeling stuff too 😉
November 29th - Game Night
Game night is a night of de-stressing with your fave TP peeps before the finals wave. Come by to chill out, play games, and eat some ~free~ snacks. We will provide the majority of games (Board games/Cards/Switch/DS), but feel free to bring your own so you can show everyone else who's boss 😉 Would love to see you there at THH 210 from 7pm-9pm!!
