September 2nd - GM #1: The One When They Come Home

Tune in LIVE to our first GM (General Meeting) of the year! Come meet our e-board and new and returning members for a night of fun! GM is this Thursday, September 2nd and starts at 7:00pm! We’ll be at TCC 350/351/352! Hope to see you all there!

September 3rd - Beach Bonfire

As summer comes to an end, it’s time to get your last beach visit in for the season. Who better to spend your beach farewell with than with Troy Phi. Come bathe in the sun with us whether you be a new or old member, everyone is welcome. Expect games, food, and the building of lifelong friendships. This exciting aquatic escapade will be taking place at Santa Monica beach. If this seems like your type of event meet us in front of Leavey Library at 5pm so we can all metro over together.

September 9th - GM #2: Scavenger Hunt Social

New to campus? Or maybe you forgot where everything was after being at home for so long? Well, we gotchu. Join Troy Philippines for our second GM of the semester, a Scavenger Hunt this Thursday at 7PM. Explore campus through a series of fun activities, meet other members, and compete with other teams to win prizes! Meet us at the front of CPA where we’ll be holding the Pilipino flag!

September 16th - GM #3: Kapa Speed Dating

It's everyone's favorite time of the year: Kapa Speed Dating. This semester, I am excited to introduce to y'all the new and improved version of TP's iconic Big/Little Program cue drum roll the Kapamilya Program! The word "kapamilya" in Tagalog is translated to "family" in English and rightfully so, because Troy Philippines is commonly described as a home away from home or a second family for many of our members. Join us for a fun-filled night on Thursday, September 16 at 7PM in front of CPA to learn more about the program and potentially find your future big/little ;))

September 17th - Kapamilya Program Social

We were so glad to see y'all at Kapa speed dating last night, and we've definitely already seen some sparks flyingggg, BUT if you just couldn't get enough or feel like you didn't meet everyone you wanted to meet, come to our social event tonight at 9pm at 1329 W 37th Dr.! For those looking to pick up a little please come wearing green attire, and for those looking to be picked up please wear red,, pull up fitted to impress!(;

September 18th - TPOP #1: Kickoff

Troy Phi is currently recruiting mentors for this Fall’s Troy Philippines Outreach Program (TPOP). TPOP is a mentorship program for high school students. The students will be matched with a TP member, who will act as their mentor. This semester’s TPOP will be online due to the COVID-19 policies, so you'll meet mentees on Zoom (mentors will meet as a group in person). If you’re interested, mentor applications have been extended to THIS THURSDAY, Sept. 16 at 11:59pm.

September 24th - GM #4: Mental Health Workshop

This week’s general meeting will be centered around our personal and collective mental healths. The workshop, and Troy Phi in general, is a safe space dedicated to a discussion surrounding a multitude of areas, ranging from the following: the mental toll of the virtual to in-person school year to stigma in Pilipinx and Pil-Am communities and how we can destigmatize, to how being a student of color at a predominantly white institution affects us emotionally. Join us in addressing the importance of personal and communal mental health and feel free to partake in mindfulness activities throughout the workshop on Thursday, September 23 at 7:00 PM in TCC 350/351/352! 

September 30th - GM #5: Kapamilya Program Reveals

AYOOO ALL KAPA MEMBERS! Reveals is Thursday, September 30th at 6:30PM for bigs (call time) and 7PM sharp for littles — no Filipino time! We know everyone is hyped to meet their big/little, so don't be late! Littles can look out for an email tomorrow for the location. Which fam will you be joining: Guapesthetic, High Line, Hoesome Fam, LXQ, Express Line, Anti-Coffee Coffee Club, Team Beef, or Maharlika?

October 6th - PAHM #1: Food & Music

Hey y’all! It’s Scott and Kayla (your Community and Culture Chairs) comin’ at you for our first GM of PAHM!! For those of you who don’t know, the month of October is Pilipinx American History Month (PAHM), and for each Thursday of the month we’ll be diving into different aspects of our heritage (so get ready because you’ll be seeing a lot of us )! To celebrate the start of PAHM, we are going to be kicking off the month with a special GM all about music! Join us next Thursday, October 7th for a night of music and history with a guest performance by Pilipinx DJ, Gingee! ​

October 21st - PAHM #2: Identity

Hey all, hope you are all having a great week! We had a blast jamming out with Gingee last Thursday to kick off PAHM and cannot wait to meet with you all at our next GM! We’ve attached the Fil-Am resources doc that Gingee shared with us, so feel free to check it out here! As a reminder, we won’t be having a GM this week, so have a restful Fall recess, but the Thursday after break is our Identity GM. We’re going to learn about the history of the Philippines, discuss how cultural history affects our identity, and unpack colonization and how it still impacts us today. Hope to see you there!

October 28th - PAHM #3: Mythology

BOO 👺 Just kidding y’all, just prepping you for this week’s Halloween GM!! Y’all will get the chance to learn about some Pilipino myths and deities, and earn some treats along the way. Don’t forget to pull up in your costumes for our costume contest!! (You’ll need it for the social at 10pm too 👀) Looking forward to seeing all y’all there 👹👹

November 4th - GM #9: Unpacking Professionalism

Hey everyone! Next week’s general meeting is going to be a space dedicated to unpacking and critiquing professionalism. It’ll be an extension of the conversation that we’ve been having around how fast-paced work culture affects mental health. We’ll be having discussions grounded in looking at the criticisms of professionalism, answering the question of how do we stop measuring our worth based on our productivity, and also dismantling what the American dream means. Join us next Thursday, November 4 at 7:00 PM in TCC 350/351/352 for our 9th general meeting! Can’t wait to see you all there :-)

November 11th - GM #10: Fam Competition

This Thursday at 7PM at the Village Lawn (behind McCarthy Dining Hall), Troy Philippines is hosting our semester-ly Fam Competition- a night full of fun games and bonding! To ensure fairness, fams will be separated into teams of 5-8 members. This accommodates the varying sizes amongst our fams. Please RSVP at the link here so we have a general idea about how many teams there are going to be! See y’all there <333 **This will be an outdoor event, so please dress warmly!**

November 21st - Pilipinx-American Culture Festival

This is your invite to Troy Philippines’s Pilipinx-American Culture Festival! PACF is a showcase of Filipino culture; we have special musical performances from our very own Troy Phi Voices, and we are honored to have LA’s finest Filipino dance troupe performing traditional Filipino dances, Malayalam Filipino American Dance Arts! During intermission, don’t forget to check out our booths to learn more about all the different aspects of what makes us Filipino. Oh, and did we mention the FREE Filipino food?
PACF is on Sunday, November 21st at 6:00 at the USC Caruso Catholic Center. This event is free for everyone to come, so don’t miss out!

December 2nd - GM #12: Christmas Party

jk hi everyone! the leadership interns have planned a FUN and FUNKY lil Christmas party! On Thursday, Dec. 2 from 7-9 pm @ TCC 350/51/52, we’ll be getting into the holiday spirit through activities, music, and PRIZES  The interns ask you to wear your most FESTIVE Holiday PJS  (NO EXCEPTIONS)  We look forward to seeing everyone’s merry and bright faces
